One Summer Reading Program Done!

Hungry, Hungry Sharks (Step-Into-Reading, Step 3)My daughter has been so excited to read because she can fill out her summer reading lists and earn a free book. She finished her first list (Borders) yesterday afternoon and immediately started bugging me to take her for her book.

Just last week, there was one day where she read 5 books in a row just so she could put them on her list. It is even good for her writing because I have had her write parts of the book names herself.

We redeemed her free book at the Waters Place Borders. In order to redeem your certificate, your child chooses which book they would like (from a select list). All of the eligible books for summer reading were on one stand under the summer reading Double Dog Dare Challenge sign. It was nice not having to sort through non-eligible books.

She selected Hungry Hungry Sharks, a step 3 reader - chosen because there was a page with a dinosaur in it. She originally wanted Danny and the Dinosaur which is a Level 1 reader and is easy for her. I tried to talk her into Judy Moody & Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt with the same characters as the Judy Moody and Not So Bummer Summer movie that started this week. I was hoping the pirates would intrigue her, along with the full color pictures, but it just couldn't compete with dinosaurs.

Of course, her parents can't walk out of Borders without buying her a few books. We were doing well until we encountered the Bargain Books. We discovered a set of 6 Just the Facts books with topics like Prehistoric World, Solar System, World Atlas, People of the World, and more. The set was just $4.95 so we purchased it. She is looking at the Solar System book right now. We also found a series of Discovery Stages books and purchased a Dinosaur Hunters and Egyptian set. They are available in stages with different levels of detail for the different topics. Each book was $2.49.
