Molasses Cookie Mix Review and Giveaway - CLOSED

Prize Pack
This fall Betty Crocker is introducing a new type of cookie mix, Molasses Cookie. I have never made Molasses Cookies before, but wanted to try them. Betty Crocker provided me with a free prize pack through MyBlogSpark to review for my readers. The prize pack included a free pack of cookie mix, a cookie sheet, a mixing spoon, and a Betty Crocker apron.

When our package arrived in the mail yesterday evening my daughter could not wait to make the cookies.  She kept asking what molasses was, but was very excited to try them. We made them today after lunch.

I loved that the added ingredients were very basic ingredients - a stick of butter, water, and an egg. I also liked that when I checked the ingredient list it listed that the product may contain milk, eggs, or soy. There was no mention of nuts which would make these safe to take to a peanut free environment (check your package to be sure they all have the same warnings).

It was extremely easy to make these. I used softened butter (sat on the counter for about 90 minutes), one egg, and 1 T of water. All of the ingredients get added at the same time. I typically bake from scratch, so it was much easier than hauling out all of my ingredients and making sure I had enough of everything and then adding everything in the proper order. Even better, the only measuring device I needed to use was a tablespoon measuring spoon so there were no measuring cups to clean. I have a KitchenAid mixer that I used to make them, although it seemed like it would be pretty easy to do by hand. If I was going to use my mixer to make these again I think I would try using the dough hook instead of the beater.
Mixed Dough
I baked the cookies for the minimum recommended time (8 min) on my Silpat using the lower temperature (350F) recommended for dark or non-stick pans. I had to bake them in two batches since they did not fit on one cookie sheet. I got 31 cookies out of the mix. The directions list the package as making 18 servings of 2 cookies (36 cookies). I usually don't get anywhere near the suggested number of cookies so I thought this was a good yield.
Watching Cookies Bake
The cookies passed the picky 5 year old challenge. She ate her entire cookie (still warm). The dough was thick and stiff, so I was worried the cookies would be dry but my fears were unfounded. Our first cookies were sampled hot out of the oven and were delicious. I had another cookie later that night with my husband and they were delicious. They are especially delicious dunked in milk (my daughter told me to try it this afternoon). I might try adding raisins to the cookies in the future. I am not sure how it would turn out, but as I was eating my last cookie my taste buds were looking for the raisins. The Betty Crocker website is a great resource to find recipes for modifications to their mixes.  I can definitely recommend these cookies as both easy to make and delicious.

Betty Crocker is offering a prize package for one of my readers through MyBlogSpark. The prize package (the same one I
