Valentine’s/President’s Day Weekend Roundup

Happy Valentine’s Day! I spent the afternoon at my daughter’s school between her Valentine’s Day Party and distributing Girl Scout Cookies to her troop mates. I’m almost done. I have about 50 cases left to hand out tomorrow. The kids (and parents) really enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries and raspberries that we made.

Mid-Winter break started after school today and I know a few families have already headed out of town. Are you headed anywhere fun? We’re stuck at home since the University of Michigan isn’t on break and my husband has to teach Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. For those remaining in town, be sure to check back later this weekend for events.

My husband’s recommendation for this weekend is to get out and go sledding. The temperatures this weekend are cool enough that there won’t be too much melting, yet warm enough to actually spend some time outside. Next week the temperatures are supposed to rise, so the snow may start melting more.

My recommendations for this weekend include the Family Science Workshop at the Pittsfield Branch of AADL with the UM Natural History Museum and Oliver! at Dexter’s Encore Theater. For younger children, I recommend the story time with the Humane Society at Nicola’s Books. If your new reader, needs confidence in reading aloud, I also recommend Read to Rikki the Golden Retriever.

There are plenty of movie options available at the local theaters. We have enjoyed Frozen, The LEGO Movie, and my daughter liked The Nut Job.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
