April at the Hands On Museum

The Ann Arbor Hands On Museum has a busy schedule planned for April including the week of Spring Break.

The month will start with ScienceFest: PhysicsPalooza on Saturday, April 5 form 10a-4p and Sunday, April 6 from noon-4p. The UM Society of Physics Students will help run activities to demonstrate motion, inertia, electricity, and more. There will also be a Professor Ray’s Everyday Science “Mighty Motion” presentation at 1 and 3p each day.

During Spring Break, they will have a special Pop-Up Makerspace available from 10a-4p. They will have a “Design-Build-Test-Deconstruct”. They will have a design challenges which can be solved with imagination, ingenuity, and innovation. Pop-Up Makerspace will be available during AAPS’s spring break from April 7-11 and again from April 21-25 for schools that are off the week after Easter.

On April 12-13 they will be holding Critters Up Close in partnership with Leslie Science & Nature Center. Critters Up Close will be from 1-4p. LSNC will be bringing select animals and there will be animal themed hands on activities.

Hands-On Hodgepodge will feature a number of favorite Hands-on activities on Saturday, April 19. The museum will be open on Easter Sunday (April 20), but there are no special activities planned.


April will conclude with Professor Ray’s Everyday Science: Luminosity on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27 with interactive demos at 1p and 3p. Demonstrations will include soda that fluoresces and a pickle that lights up.

All activities above are included with your museum admission (which is free for members).

They will also be holding a special after-hours Making Stuff Colder event on Thursday, April 17 from 6:30-7:30p. Participants will make a “Personal Cooling Unit” to take home. The workshop is recommended for ages 6+ (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult). The event costs $5/members and $10/non-members. Registration is recommended.

In addition, every Tuesday they hold Preschool Storytime from 9-10a in the Preschool Gallery. They are also offer $5 after Five on Thursdays when they stay open until 8.
