Aleksandr Chernyak’s Balalaika Performance
Sunday, April 13

ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 6, 2014 — Aleksandr Chernyak, Russian native and local performer also known to his audiences as “Sasha”, will bring his show “Through Russia with Music” to Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m.

Sasha is the “real deal”! Born and raised as a musician in the USSR, Sasha led a popular band of Russian folk musicians that played at major music festivals throughout Europe. Moving to the United States in 1991 to escape social persecution, Sasha has become a beloved performer and teacher of Russian music and culture.

A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Sasha was educated in Russia and Ann Arbor (UM School of Music, MM). He sings in Russian, English, Ukranian, Polish, German, and Yiddish, accompanying himself on the balalaika and guitar. Since coming to the U.S. Sasha has performed for more than 1000 different audiences in the U.S. and Canada, including schools, open houses, libraries, fairs, and the Russian Cultural Center, all to rave reviews.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
