ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 15 – First Steps-Ann Arbor, a division of Community Education and Recreation, Ann Arbor Public Schools.

On Thursday, April 24, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., First Steps-Ann Arbor is hosting an Open House and Fun Night at the Preschool & Family Center, 2775 Boardwalk Dr. Area families with young children are welcome to enjoy a range of enriching literacy, math, gross motor and art activities. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers attend with their parents. This evening event is FREE!

“This event is the perfect opportunity for parents of infants to five year olds to learn about all that First Steps has to offer,” said Jenna Bacolor, Executive Director of Community Education and Recreation. “From enriching, active parent/child classes to resources for children who might be experiencing a developmental delay — First Steps supports families in making sure their young children are ready for kindergarten at age five.” When parents join First Steps, they often look for a supportive, enriching space where their children can learn how to get along with others. They discover that they learn more about their child’s skills and how to support development and they have fun themselves too.

First Steps formed in 2001 with the purpose of encouraging parents to learn more about their children’s development from birth. More than 3,000 families have participated together in First Steps classes over the last 12 years. We offer a wide variety of classes: some just for babies or 1 or 2 year olds and some with every age from birth to kindergarten entry. The Open House is an opportunity to experience these focused, fun activities and meet staff.

To register for this event please contact Marj Hyde at 734-994-4949. For more information visit the First Steps website at

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
