Touch a Truck returns May 10

Spring is here which means it is time for Touch a Truck. Touch a Truck 2014 will be held at Ypsilanti High School (2095 Packard, Ypsilanti) on Saturday, May 10 from 9a-noon. It is presented by Washtenaw Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor. Touch a Truck is a FREE event.

I definitely recommend Touch a Truck for kids from toddlers through preschoolers. We attended the event several times when my daughter was younger and always had a great time. The last time we attended my daughter was in Kindergarten (the last year the event was held at Briarwood Mall). As she has gotten older, our schedule has gotten busier so we haven’t been able to attend.

See the press release below the flyer for more information:

Touch-a-Truck Event Speeds into Ypsilanti May 10th

Have you ever wanted to sit behind the steering wheel of a fire engine? Slide into the driver’s seat of a postal truck? Climb aboard a backhoe excavator?

All these opportunities and more await children and their families at the 6th Annual Touch-A-Truck event presented by Washtenaw Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor. This free family event is Saturday, May 10th from 9 am to Noon at a new location, Ypsilanti Community High School, 2095 Packard, Ypsilanti, with parking nearby in front of the football field.

“We know that this is a favorite event of young children and their families in Washtenaw County, and we’re thrilled that this year we will have even more trucks and organizations participating than ever,” said Margy Long, Director of Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative.

Over 35 vehicles (the most in our history) from organizations such as Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department, Recycle Ann Arbor, CCI Excavating, Ypsilanti District Library, Doan Concrete, Huron Valley Ambulance, Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Corrigan Moving, and many more have been confirmed. There will also be vehicles from new organizations such as: Ann Arbor YMCA, Ann Arbor Post Office, Washtenaw County Road Commission, Washtenaw County HazMat, Augusta Twp. Fire Department, DTE Energy, and U.S. Army Reserve.

Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative’s Touch-a-Truck event is designed to provide a fun learning opportunity for the whole family, especially young children. In addition to the trucks, emergency response vehicles, school buses and more, local non-profits and businesses will be there to share information about preschool opportunities, childcare, dental services and a wide variety of other family services.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
