Weekend Roundup: A Busy Start to May

I can’t believe May is here already. Our weekend is already starting to look like the typical end of school year weekend with a full schedule that has us skipping certain events and struggling to fit others in.

We will definitely be making time for Free Comic Book Day to stop by one of the local comic book stores on Saturday. My daughter is disappointed that we will not be doing anything special on Sunday for May the 4th aka Star Wars Day since I didn’t find any local events. Disney Stores are holding celebrations, but our schedule doesn’t allow time to drive to either Toledo or Great Lakes Crossing. One event that we don’t have to try to fit in is seeing Wild Swan Theater’s Wizard of Oz since my daughter’s class went yesterday.

For many years we loved Day Out with Thomas at Greenfield Village and I definitely recommend it to families with younger children. There are still some tickets available for both Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The weather looks better for Sunday, so I recommend buying your tickets now before they sell out. Young kids will also love The Very Hungry Caterpillar 45th Birthday Celebration at Barnes & Noble of Ann Arbor. My daughter loved that book when she was a baby and toddler.

Saturday wraps up with Frog Fest at Leslie Science & Nature Center. Sunday starts with the Burns Park Run and also includes Henry & Mudge (Not Just for Kids Series) at Michigan Theater as the conclusion of the 2013-2014 season. The library has a few good events including the last chance for Juried Submission for Kids Art Fair at Ann Arbor Art Fair and Pom-Pom Launchers.

Whatever you have planned for Saturday, remember that it is graduation weekend and allow extra time for traffic and/or adjust your route accordingly.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
