Summer Roundup – Weekly Events Just for Younger Kids

When my daughter was a toddler and preschooler I used to dread summer and school breaks when the big kids would be everywhere. My daughter was intimidated by their size, active play, speed, and the sheer number of them particularly when they were present on field trips. I learned to find “safe” activities for younger kids. Below are a listing of weekly activities designed just for toddlers and preschoolers. For less frequent or one-time events, be sure to check the Upcoming Events calendar or the weekly roundups that I will be posting over the summer.

The Ann Arbor pools offer Tot Splash each weekday. During Tot Splash only the kiddy pool is open for kids ages 7 and under. Regular pool admission applies and you can stay when the pool opens at 1p for open swim each day.

Xtreme Bounce Zone offers Toddler Take Over on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. From 10a-1p, only kids ages 5 and under are admitted. Admission to Toddler Take Over is $3/child.

The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum offers a Preschool Story Time on Tuesday and Saturday mornings as well as their Preschool Gallery which is always for toddlers and preschoolers.

Ann Arbor District Library offers a full schedule of Baby Playgroups and Preschool Storytimes in the summer. Ypsilanti District Library also offers a number of Baby, Toddler, and Preschool story times. Nicola’s Books has Preschool Story Time with Ieva on Tuesdays at 10a (schedule available through June). Bookbound offers a children’s story time at 6p on Tuesdays and 10a on Thursday that is designed for kids ages 6 and under.

Champion Gymnastics offers Toddler Time on Friday mornings.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
