Summer Weekly Roundup: First Week of Break

Are you enjoying having the kids off for the summer? We have a mix of camps, vacation, and days at home planned for my daughter this summer.

Today we started her summer break with a leisurely morning followed by a bike ride to our local park. Since then, my daughter has enjoyed playing on the swing set, building with LEGO, and reading in her room. We are already making plans for the rest of the week. Unfortunately the weather is a big variable right now, so it may affect outdoor plans. The temperatures are hot, but there is a strong chance of thunder storms, particularly Wednesday.

This week many local activities are also kicking off their summer schedules. Tot Splash at the Ann Arbor pools begin this week. Quality 16 began their daily 10a summer weekday Dollar Matinees for $1 yesterday with Happy Feet 2 showing this week. Rave’s Summer Movie Clubhouse offers a 10a movie for $1 on Tuesdays with Epic showing this week. The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum will have Activity Remix each weekday in June.

Top of the Park continues this week with KidZone activities from 5-8p every night except for Mondays. I need to look at our schedule and find a night that Top of the Park works for us. We attended Sunday evening, but arrived after the KidZone had closed since we were arriving for the movie. Thursday and Friday (weather pending) will feature the Architects of Air at Palmer Field which is a special admission event to explore. I will definitely be trying to fit this into our schedule.

The Ann Arbor District Library is also kicking off their summer activities this week. Their How to Train Your Dragon Crafts at Malletts Creek Branch of AADL on Wednesday, Craft Your Name in Braille at Downtown Branch of AADL on Friday, or Make a Fairy Doll at Pittsfield Branch of AADL on Friday are sure to be big hits with kids.

Wednesday night is the first Ann Arbor Civic Band Concert at West Park Band Shell. Then, on Friday, Hudson Mills will hold “An American Salute” by Michigan Philharmonic.
