Wild Swan Theater’s 2014-2015 Season
Wild Swan Theater has been producing plays for children in the Ann Arbor area. My daughter has attended a play with her class for the last 4 years and has really enjoyed them. They recently announced their 2014-2015 season. The season is broken into Kid’s Classic Series for younger children and the Adventure Series for older children. As an 8 year old, entering 3rd grade, my daughter is ready to move on to the Adventure Series of plays.
All shows offer 10a shows on weekdays with a second show at noon on Fridays. The Kid’s Classic Series has 11a shows on Saturdays (and Sunday where applicable). The Adventure Series offers weekend shows at 2p.

The season will kick off with Frog and Toad in the Kid’s Classic Series on October 9-11. I loved Arnold Lobel’s Frog & Toad books as a child and was disappointed that my daughter never took to them. In the play, Frog and Toad will greet spring, plant a garden, and share cookies. The play is recommended for ages 3-9.
The Adventure Series kicks off in November with Treasure Island from November 19-23. Based on the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, Treasure Island is the story of Jim Hawkins coming to age under the guidance of pirates like Long John Silver. The play is recommended for kids ages 7+
Strega Nona and the Magic Pasta Pot will continue the Kid’s Classic Series from January 22-24. The kids will love this show with Strega Nona and the magical pasta pot that goes out of control when Big Anthony tries to use it. My daughter’s class loved this play when they saw it. The recommended age is 3-9.
February 5-7 brings the annual performance of Under the African Sky, another play my daughter’s class enjoyed as Kindergarteners. Under the African Sky is a collection of African folk tales in the Kid’s Classic Series for ages 3-9.
I Can Hear the Sun will be performed from March 11-14. It is based on Michigan author Patricia Polacco’s book I Can Hear the Sun about Fondo, a homeless boy who takes care of the geese in the park. I Can Hear the Sun is for ages 7+ and is part of the Adventure Series.
The Ugly Duckling from March 25-28 is the last play in the Kid’s Classic Series. The Hans Christian Andersen classic has been adapted by Wild Swan’s resident playwright Jeff Duncan.
The season wraps up with Beanstalk – The Musical, a musical adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk, from April 29-May 3. Beanstalk – The Musical is the final play in the Adventure Series and is best for kids ages 6+.
All performances are held at Towsley Auditorium in the Morris Lawrence building on Washtenaw Community College’s campus.
Season Ticket subscriptions (3 or more productions) will go on sale on August 16 with a 20% season ticket discount. Individual tickets will go on sale beginning September 16.
