Fourth of July Weekend Roundup

Did you kick off your celebration of the Fourth of July last night at Hudson Mills Metropark’s Fireworks? We weren’t able to make it since we are having family over today and had work to do.

However, we will definitely be at the Ann Arbor Jaycees Fourth of July Parade which starts at 10a. My daughter LOVES participating in the parade. This will be our 6th year in the parade, starting with her preschool. I just love the photo of her below at age 3 handing out candy.

The Ypsilanti Jaycees Fourth of July Parade is also today starting at 11a. We did attend theirs a few years ago when the Fourth was on a Sunday and they moved theirs to Saturday, July 3.

If parades aren’t your child’s favorite, Quality 16 is still running their Dollar Movie today and is showing The LEGO Movie. We loved the LEGO Movie. On Wednesday, I had a group of 9 kids at my house and they loved watching the movie.

If you are going to be setting off fireworks, I recommend checking out these Fireworks Safety Tips that C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital shared yesterday.

Since it is a holiday weekend, there aren’t too many activities going on around town. Many places are closed today for the holiday, so please check before you visit. Places that are open: Ann Arbor Parks Pools and Leslie Science Center Grounds, Jungle Java Canton (no other location is mentioned either open or closed). Places that are closed: Hands on Museum, Goldfish Swim School (all weekend), most stores.

The big highlight for the rest of the week is the conclusion of Top of the Park. We are looking forward to The Wizard of Oz on Sunday night to close out the event. Maybe my daughter will finally make the end of a movie!

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
