Huron River Day 2014 is Sunday
Sunday, July 13 is Huron River Day 2014. There are several events all along the Huron River with the bulk of the area’s events taking place at Gallup Park.
Huron River Day will kick off with the Ann Arbor Track Club’s Gallup Gallop 5K Run/Fitness Walk at 8:30a. Gallup Park will have a guided paddling trip from 11a-noon followed by a full slate of activities from noon-4p. They will have $5 rentals for both canoes and kayaks (or free if you’ve ridden your bike to the event). There will be lots of fun activities including a children’s tent with art and science activities and an enviro-challenge, a canoe photo booth, fishing, river bugs, live animals with Leslie Science & Nature Center, a butterfly house, and a Classic Small Boat Show. Food will be available for purchase.
On Huron River Day Parker Mill Park will offer guided hikes of the Huron River Floodplain and Tours of the historic mill. The mill will be open from noon-4p for individual exploration with formal tours at 1 and 3p. My daughter took a field trip to Parker Mill in Kindergarten and enjoyed touring the mill and the park. I joined her for the hike through the marsh. Parker Mill Park is a Washtenaw County Park located at 4653 Geddes Rd.
Hudson Mills Metropark wil have a West River Trail Bike-Hike from the Hudson Mills Activity Center to the Dexter Library. There will be trips at 10a and noon. The event is $5/adult and $3/child. Helmets are required for all. Pre-registration is available by calling 734-426-8211.
