Weekend Roundup – Maker Faire & Movie Inspired Events

When I first looked at this weekend’s activities, I didn’t think it looked too busy, but then I found a few more events, and it is a typical weekend in Ann Arbor with lots of events scheduled. The weather is looking a little iffy (and uncertain) with rain in the forecast for Saturday (currently a 60% chance) and thunder storms for Sunday (30% chance), so it is good that there are a few indoor activities. The good news is the chance of storms on Sunday is down from when I originally wrote this post on Thursday night.

Museums are always a great way to spend a rainy day. This weekend is the Maker Faire at The Henry Ford in Dearborn. There will be exhibitors both indoors and outdoors, so if you arrive before the rain, I would check out the outside exhibitors first.

After our visit two weekends ago, I also recommend the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum with their new H2Oh! exhibit. My daughter exclaimed “Awesome! Awesome!! Awesome!!!” as she walked around it for the first time. We will need to take advantage of the membership that I purchased to return for the L is for Laser special feature which opened the day after our visit.

My picks for today are Caped Crusaders at Pittsfield Branch of AADL for all of the Super Hero fans so that they can make their own Super Hero Cape. Then, tonight, the whole family can enjoy Despicable Me 2 at Saline’s Movie in the Park.

Saturday’s top pick is Frozen Crafts at Learning Express Toys. Advance signup is required, and space is limited, so I recommend calling today.

My daughter really enjoys the Wizard of Oz, so I am picking Michigan Theater’s Sing-A-Long The Wizard of Oz as my top pick for the weekend (Sunday afternoon). She loved the last Sing A Long movie that we saw at Michigan Theater (The Little Mermaid).

Another Sunday pick that would interest my daughter is Simple Circuits with Engineers at Malletts Creek Branch of AADL. She loved playing with Snap Circuits on her class field trip to the Hands on Museum this spring.

Looking forward to next week, you will want to mark your calendars for Life-Sized Angry Birds on Monday sponsored by AADL at the Meri Lou Murray Rec Center. Tuesday’s Summer Movie Clubhouse Dollar Movie at Rave is The LEGO Movie. Nicola’s Books Story Time with the Zoo for Elementary Aged Children on Wednesday, and Frozen Friday! at Barnes & Noble Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
