Weekly Roundup – Rolling Sculpture, Disney Concert, Roller Coaster Engineering, & More

Welcome to a rainy, early week in July – although the sun seems to be coming out now. We are taking a slow morning today after staying out late for Top of the Park’s Wizard of Oz last night (my daughter was actually still asleep at 9:45a). After two weeks of camp, it is nice to have a week off without the early mornings.

When I look at the list of events this week, a few events jump out at me. We love the Rolling Sculpture Car Show which is on Friday. My daughter loves roller coasters, so Thursday’s Roller Coaster Engineering Challenge at AADL is right up her alley. She is also a comic book fan, so the Comic Book Creations on Tuesday would also interest her. She also is a big Disney fan, so the Ann Arbor Civic Band’s Children’s Concert – the Magic of Disney at West Park Band Shell on Wednesday evening is sure to hold her attention.

After rain this morning and predicted again tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be nice the rest of the week. With my daughter home this week, I’m hoping to have a day to take her to Rolling Hills, Blue Heron Bay, or a splash park.

Movies are always a fun way to spend some time indoors. The Dollar Movie at Quality 16 this week is Where the Wild Things Are each weekday at 10a. Rave Cinemas is also showing The Smurfs 2 on Tuesday at 10a in their Summer Movie Clubhouse series. Rave also offers discounted rates on the first show of the day and all day on Wednesday making a great time to see a new movie.

The Ann Arbor District Library has a number of great events this week. Fun activities include tomorrow’s Mini Clay Figures from Plants & Zombies and Comic Book Creations (grades 3+), Wednesday’s Let’s Go Fishing, Thursday’s Acorn Necklaces and Roller Coaster Engineering, and Friday’s Sensation Stations for toddlers.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
