Weekly Roundup

I guess everyone survived Art Fair week. This summer is flying by. Last week we attended the Townie Party on Monday night and then avoided the Downtown Area. My daughter was attending Girl Scout Day Camp at the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Regional Center which is convenient to our home. She had a great time attending the session and is looking forward to her next Girl Scout Camp Session. We also had a chance Thursday night to relive the fun of the Star Wars Camp that she attended through Rec & Ed earlier this summer. They were running a second session last week and we were able to attend the pancake dinner followed by a game of Death Star (Dodge Ball) parents vs. kids. I definitely recommend the Hooked on Fun Camps through Ann Arbor Rec & Ed. This was my daughter’s second year doing Star Wars camp.  There’s still 5 weeks left in the summer to register your child for summer camp! You can find Summer Camp activities in the Ann Arbor with Kids Summer Camp Guide sponsored by My Urban ToddlerAnn Arbor Rec & EdPrecious Sprouts of Ann Arbor, and University of Michigan Museum of Natural History.

Looking at this week, there are a few fun activities around town. The Quality 16 Dollar Movie is Yogi Bear each weekday at 10a. Tuesday is Rave’s Summer Movie Clubhouse showing of Walking with Dinosaurs. My daughter went through a total dino-loving phase so I’m sure she would still love this movie.

If you have young kids, I recommend checking out the Washtenaw Great Start Parent Coalition for Popsicles in the Park at Lillie Park from 10a-noon on Wednesday.

There are a few fun activities on Wednesday evening. The Wednesday Evening Farmers Market is having a Food Truck Rally from 4-8p. Then, the last Ann Arbor Civic Band Concert at West Park Band Shell at 8p. We really enjoyed the Civic Band Concert we attended two weeks ago.

The Ann Arbor District Library has a number of fun events this week. For elementary school aged kids, they are offering Jolly Paper Jellyfish on Tuesday at 2p (Pittsfield), Pinwheel Flower Pots on Thursday at 2p (Traverwood), and Caped Crusaders on Friday at 2p (Pittsfield). Upper elementary (grades 3-5) can also learn coding at Hello World! Command Line for Kids on Thursday evening at Downtown Branch. For the tweens/teens (grades 6-12), they are offering a Tie Dye Workshop tonight (Malletts Creek), Community Vinyasa Yoga on Tuesday evening (Malletts Creek), See a Juggler! Be a Juggler! at 2p on Wednesday (Pittsfield), Super Comics Challenge on Wednesday at 6p (Malletts Creek), and Planet Rock Climbing (registration required) on Friday.

I also recommend a trip to the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum now that Art Fair is over and downtown is a bit less crowded (and fewer road closures). My daughter really enjoyed the new H2Oh! exhibit last weekend and were disappointed to be there the day before the laser exhibit opened. We will definitely be going back when we have a day without camp. In addition, the museum will have a Pop Up Makerspace each weekday in July. That is a perfect way to get ready for this weekend’s Maker Faire at The Henry Ford.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
