Thunder Over Michigan Air Show Includes USAF Thunderbirds
The Thunder Over Michigan Air Show is this weekend (Saturday August 9 and Sunday, August 10) at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti. I have been wanting to attend for a couple of years, but something has always come up. Last year I was at a conference and there have been a few years that we were out of town. I didn’t realize that this year’s event was this weekend, and already have other things on our agenda, so I don’t think we will make it again.
The Air Show Grounds will be open from 9a-5p each day. From 10:30-11a, there will be a re-enactment of a WWII European Ground Battle. The bulk of the flying demonstrations will take place from 11:30a-4p and will include WWII AAF Victory Flights and Parades, the US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, and the USAF Thunderbirds.
There will also be a Kidz Zone Play Area with activities for the kids all day long. The activities will include aviation themed inflatables.
Tickets for the Baltia Air Lines Thunder Over Michigan Air Show are $30 if you purchase them in advance (until noon on Sunday, August 10) and $35 on site. Kids ages 15 and under are free. Parking is an additional $10 in advance or $15 on site. There is a fee associated with each item for online purchase ($2/ticket, $1/parking), so the savings are less than the full $5 advertised. In addition to your admission ticket, you can purchase upgrades to include premium viewing areas, food, and more amenities. The upgrades may be required for children under the age of 15 in addition to the adults. Be warned that if you are purchasing tickets on site, it is cash only!
