Updated: End of Summer Weekend Roundup – Back to School on Tuesday

Update: 5:50p 8/29 – I left a big event for the weekend out of the original version of the weekend roundup. The Saline Fair is ongoing and has been added below.

I can’t believe the kids start back to school on Tuesday. Between camps, vacations, and day trips, we have had a busy summer. My daughter has been enjoying her last day off with some Minecraft, Wii, and is now playing with a friend.

Labor Day Weekend bridges summer activities and the start of the school year. It is the last weekend for most local pools, water parks, splash grounds, and other summer activities. UM Students have already moved in, football season kicks off tomorrow, and local school districts go back to class on Tuesday.

While this weekend is the end of the summer swimming season, I recommend planning for Saturday or Sunday since there is a higher chance of storms for Monday. The weather will be warm so there is no reason not to head to the pool.

The Saline Fair continues all weekend with special Kids Day activities from 11a-4p on Saturday. The fair concludes on Monday when only the rides are open (hours 1-6p). There is no admission on Monday and ride wristbands are only $10.

In planning your Saturday activities, be sure to take into account the Michigan Football game at noon. Leave extra time if you need to drive near the stadium (or are heading to the game). If you are considering attending future games, I recommend signing your child up for the Go Blue Kids Club. Benefits include free tickets to certain sports and ticket discounts for Football. We are taking advantage of the deal to attend a game this season. Also, consider taking advantage of W.O.W. Friday either this afternoon or on future game days to take a stadium tour. We had a lot of fun doing this last year (my daughter was 7).

A great way to escape the game traffic would be to head to the Toledo Zoo on Saturday for their Butterfly & Bug Festival. Other events for Saturday include LEGO Build at Learning Express, Kids Day at White Lotus Farms, and Professor Ray’s Everyday Science: Luminosity at AAHOM. The South Asian Parents Network will also hold their Kickoff Meeting at West Park from 2-4p.

Sunday’s big event is Dancing in the Streets in Downtown Ann Arbor. Then on Monday, you can take advantage of the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop’s 50% off Labor Day Sale.

Also, this weekend Ghostbusters has been re-released in theaters to celebrate it’s 30th Anniversary. Locally it is playing at Rave Cinemas.

There are several online deals available this weekend that I am recommending. If your child is a Frozen fan, I recommend checking out the Frozen merchandise deals available through zulily. For iTunes users, check out this $15 iTunes credit for $10.
