Children’s Product Recalls: Children’s Brita Filter Water Bottle & 4 in 1 Crib

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission has recently announced two recalls for children’s products that I have been asked to share. The first is for character themed Brita hard-sided water filter bottle for kids and the other is for a 4-in-1 Convertible Crib from Franklin & Ben Mason.

As kids go back to school this week and you are packing their lunches, be sure to check their water bottle to see if it is one of the recalled water bottles listed below. Affected models include Hello Kitty, Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Square Pants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bottles. If your water bottle is affected, you can contact Brita as instructed in the recall information.

Recall Date: August 19, 2014
Recall Number: 14-257

Name of Product: Brita hard-sided water filter bottle for kids
Hazard: The lid can break into pieces with sharp points, posing a laceration hazard
Consumer Contact: Call Brita at (800) 926-2065 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or go to and click “Safety Recall” for more information.
Sold at: Alaska Housewares, Associated Food Stores, Bartell Drug, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Quidsi, Royal Ahold, Shopko, Target, US Navy Exchange, Walmart Stores, and online at, and Hello Kitty bottles were sold from February 2014 through July 2014. Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Square Pants and Teenage Mutant Ninja bottles were sold from June 2013 through July 2014. The bottles sold for about $13 to $19.

They are also announcing a recall of the Franklin & Ben Mason 4-in-1 Convertible Crib. If you have an affected crib, contact the manufacturer for a repair kit as instructed below.

Name of Product: Franklin & Ben Mason 4-in-1 Convertible Cribs
Hazard: The crib front can separate from the side panels and create a hazardous gap that can allow a child to fall out or become entrapped between the front and side panels.
Consumer Contact: Contact Franklin & Ben, a division of Bexco, toll-free at (888) 673-6652 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. PT Monday through Friday. Consumers can also visit the firm’s website at and click “Safety Recall” to request a repair kit.
Sold at: Juvenile products specialty retailers nationwide from January 2012 through June 2014 for between $600 and $700.
