Weekend Roundup – The Middle Of September

Most of the elementary school kids are finishing their second week of school and many preschool kids are completing their first week. How is school going so far?

For me it feels like we are back in the routine and it was hard to believe that it is only the second week of school. Unfortunately, my daughter’s school seems to have colds floating around already. My daughter and a friend are both home today and I know a couple of others who have already been sick. My daughter is really hoping to be better since I am attending BloggyCon14 this weekend at Cedar Point and she and my husband are supposed to accompany me. She has been looking forward to this all summer.

There are quite a few fun events planned around town for this weekend starting tonight. My top pick, is Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s Shrek: The Musical which is playing at UM’s Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre through Sunday. We really enjoyed Shrek: The Musical when Pioneer High School performed it in 2013. For kids who want their own chance to star on stage, YPT is holding auditions for Seussical The Musical, their fall show.

Tonight is a night to head outdoors, either for Family Campout Friday at Independence Lake or Star Gazing Party with University Lowbrow Astronomers at Leslie Science & Nature Center. Leslie Science Center will also be at the Hands On Museum for Critters Up Close, their monthly partnership.

There are plenty of activities for the preschool crowd with Dancing Babies with Melissa Hudson at Traverwood Branch of AADL on Saturday, Saturday Story Time at Nicola’s Books, and The Music Lady at Ann Arbor Hands On Museum.

This is also the second weekend for Quality 16’s FREE Fall Matinee Series. This week’s movie is Walking with Dinosaurs which will be shown at 9a and 10a on both Saturday and Sunday.

Just a reminder to take into account Game Day traffic on Saturday when planning your activities (3:30p game time). Are you going to the game? We went to the last home game. It was my daughter’s first time attending a Michigan game and she really enjoyed it. I was surprised that she was able to pay attention to the whole game and understand what was going on since she usually doesn’t want to watch football at home. Families can also take advantage of W.O.W. Fridays and take a Stadium Tour. We did this last season and had fun.

Finally, I also wanted to share that Swim Lessons at Mack Pool start this weekend. My daughter did several sessions there and we were very happy with the lessons that she received.

I also want to highlight a couple of deals that are currently available.

Earlier this week I shared about some changes coming for Ann Arbor with Kids. The first newsletter will be going out this afternoon. Please consider signing up to be sure to receive our weekend updates. I am continuing to work on the new site and am very excited about the upcoming changes. I have been playing with the new calendar and it is looking great with the ability to filter by category which will include age range, location, and event types. My hope is to deploy the new site next week, although depending on how the transfer process goes, it will probably be the following week.

The weekend schedule is below:
Friday, September 12

Saturday, September 13

Sunday, September 14

The following two tabs change content below.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
