Saline Area Players Announce 2015-16 Season

Saline Area Players bring you a busy season with shows for all ages, and opportunities both on and offstage.  First, they will perform at the Rentschler Farm Harvest days, on October 4.  Everyone who comes to the farm will have the opportunity at 1 or 3:30 pm to see their “Country Hoedown Jamboree.” The show will include country themed music, dance, skits, and short jokes like in the show “Hee Haw.”  It is a great family day – come out to see the farm, the animals, and catch a show.

In October, SAP will perform in another dinner theater at Mangiamo Italian Grill – an original show titled “Murder & Mayhem at Mangiamo’s.” The show will feature a dinner buffet and cash bar with a murder mystery show interspersed.  The murder takes place at a Halloween party where guests are dressed in costumes.  Attendees will solve the mystery and are encouraged to come in costume as well. Show dates are October 16-18 and 23-25.

In December, SAP will continue a tradition by performing a Christmas show entitled, “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” written by Jamie Gorski and directed by Kara Cardella.  This is our 7thyear of performing a family show (with kids and adults in the cast and the audience) the same weekend as SACC’s annual Christmas parade.  The only difference is that it will no longer be at Stone Arch, but be at The Fifth Corner this year.  Dates are December 3-6.  Two compelling stories come together in this heartwarming play inspired by the famous editorial of the same title.  On Christmas Eve, 1897, in NYC, 8 year-old Virginia is left pondering whether or not Santa really exists after a series of unhappy events. Meanwhile, a young newspaper editor also struggles against tough holiday times as he is faced with losing his job if he can’t find his writer’s voice by morning.  The spirit of Christmas is about to bring these people together.

Rounding out the season, March 17-19 at Fifth Corner, will be a production written by Marc and Kathy Holland, local playwrights, entitled “Warren’s Peace.”  Marc will direct this Michigan-themed show that will include dessert and Michigan “samplings.”  The play is set in small town Michigan.  It tells the story of a young National Guardsman who comes to the small town of Crickwater, Michigan to kick off a World Peace Day celebration, but finds the city’s fathers and mothers ready for anything but peace!  He quickly sees it will take more than just a banner and a sheet cake to end the conflict in this eccentric burg.

Full show information is on the website.  In addition, if you are interested in auditioning (or helping out backstage), check the website for dates and details.  If you’ve never been in a SAP show, or never seen one, perhaps this will be your year!

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
