Halloween Adventures in Ann Arbor with Kids – Weekend Roundup October 30-31
Halloween weekend is here! Since there are so many Halloween events around town on Friday and Saturday, I decided to split the weekend roundup into two e-mails. This first e-mail will cover events through Halloween, Saturday. A second e-mail will cover events from Sunday through Tuesday since AAPS has off on Monday and Tuesday. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t thought much past Halloween yet and have’t really looked for events next week. About all I know is that we get an extra hour of sleep Saturday Night! (And yes, my 9.5 year old will either sleep in or read/play on her iPad without waking us.)
Friday morning is my favorite Ann Arbor Halloween Event – Halloween Treat Parade in the Main Street area of Ann Arbor. My daughter and I had many fun years attending the event before she started school. We always started with the Halloween Party! at the Downtown Branch of AADL.There are several Halloween Parties Friday night: Boo Bash at Saline Rec Center, 6th Annual Halloween Family Bash! at Meri Lou Murray Rec Center, Halloween Party at Jungle Java, Frankenstein’s Not So Scary Drop-Off Bounce Party at Pump It Up Canton, and Muttster Mash Bash- Halloween Party for Kids at Humane Society of Huron Valley.
Saturday’s Top Halloween Events
Saturday’s weather is looking a bit iffy for evening trick or treat. With the current forecast for rain starting at 3 and continuing until 6p (the latest hourly on the Weather Channel App), I’m hopeful that it either comes earlier or later than forecast. Last year, rain ruined my daughter’s green face paint for Gamora. This year, it will definitely cause problems with her cardboard Minecraft head.
Fortunately, there are some of the Halloween events are indoors. I know the Briarwood Mall Boo Bash is Saturday night from 5-8p and offers an hour of indoor trick or treating. Tweens and teens can also enjoy a late night at Zap Zone with their Halloween All-You-Can-Play from 10p-2a. For more ideas, check out Guide to Indoor Halloween Events.
Halloween Dining Deals
Several local restaurants are offering free or discounted meals for kids (or everyone) over the next few days. Be sure to check out our list. I know my daughter has enjoyed a Free Scary Face Pancake and we’ve both enjoyed a Free Boo-rito in years past. Find out when, where, and how to get your free meals this weekend.
If you’re looking for indoor activities, Quality 16 is a great place to look. They’ll be playing this summer’s hit Minions as part of their Free-Quent FMG Movie Series. It shows at 9a and 10a on Saturday (and Sunday).
In addition, they will be offering a free kids ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket to see either Hotel Transylvania 2 or Goosebumps on Halloween.
There’s only a little more time to visit an Apple Orchard, Cider Mill, or Corn Maze. Some of the corn mazes on the list are closed (I know Talladay closed last weekend) and it’s late in the season for apples, so be sure to double check hours for this weekend before heading out.
Other Halloween Picks
In addition to the activities listed above, my top weekend picks are:
- 9:30a Halloween Party at Lamaze Family Center
- 7:30p Portraits of Costumed Crime Fighters, a Halloween Concert at WCC (Morris Lawrence Building)
Saturday (all mostly indoor events in case of bad weather)
- noon-3p AADL Costume Contest at Downtown Branch of AADL
- 1-4p Halloween Spooktacular at Yankee Air Museum
- 1-2:30p Halloween Skate at Veterans Memorial Ice Arena
- 2:30p Halloween Concert at Hill Auditorium
With the rainy weather forecast, I’m expecting to have a lot of candy leftover. Fortunately, there are several Halloween Candy Buy Back Programs in the Ann Arbor area.
