Our Plans

Fortunately, my daughter and I have plenty to keep us busy on Monday. Part of her Christmas and birthday present is a re-designed room. While she received the new bedding and accessories, we still need to clean out the room and paint it. We are planning to spend some time this weekend sorting through her closet and the mountain of stuffed animals that she has accumulated in the last 10 years.

Outdoor Activities

The weather is currently looking a bit questionable for outdoor activities on Monday. The temperature is supposed to be warmer (low 40s), but there is a 50% chance of rain in the morning.

Update 2/1/16: The forecast for today has changed quite a bit since Thursday when I first made some event suggestions. That means that outside activities are an option especially with conditions above freezing.

Physical Activities

Ice Skating is a great physical activity for the winter. This year Ann Arbor Parks added three natural out-door ice skating rinks in addition to the outdoor rink at Buhr Park. Update: The temperatures are too warm for the natural rinks, but the other rinks are all available.

This morning my daughter mentioned wanting to try skiing. Mount Brighton offers skiing options. Since she’s in fourth grade this year, I’m thinking of getting her the Cold is Cool passport. I’ve never been skiing either, so we could learn together.

Outdoor Exploration

After learning this afternoon that a new polar bear cub was born at the Toledo Zoo, it dawned on me that we haven’t visited since the summer when we enjoyed the new aquarium. Be sure to bundle up if you do go visit. There are plenty of indoor activities at the Zoo with the Aquarium, Nature’s Neighborhood, Reptile House, Aviary, and much more. Note that the mother and new cub are not currently on exhibit.

Indoor Activities

Of course, indoor activities are a great way to spend a winter day off.

Indoor Play

When she was a toddler and preschooler, my daughter didn’t enjoy the indoor playgrounds and bounce houses. By the time she started elementary school, she had overcome her fear and loved them. However, now at age 10, she is outgrowing the indoor play spaces. Jungle Java is a great option in Ann Arbor. Chelsea Treehouse is also a fun place to play in the Chelsea area. Unfortunately, the Ann Arbor bounce houses have closed and Pump It Up in Canton is not open on Monday, February 1.

Earlier this month Arbor Annie and I enjoyed our visit to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. I’m sure my daughter would love a trip back to the Museum. She also loves the UM Museum of Natural History. On Monday, you can help them design the exhibit for the Mammoth found in Chelsea last year.

The Henry Ford Museum is always a ton of fun. Through the end of February, they are holding Engines Exposed with the hoods of cars open so that guests can see the engines. My daughter loves the Henry Ford Museum.

My daughter loves movies and she enjoys going to them on her day off. Kung Fu Panda 3, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Norm of the North are great options currently in theaters. Rave discounts their first showing of the day, so if your schedule works that is a great way to save money on your movies.

Ann Arbor with Kids is your go-to source for Ann Arbor Family Fun. It got its start in an activity list that I was compiling for the playgroup I ran at our church. When my daughter started preschool, the other moms were thrilled to hear about my list. I decided to take the list public in 2009.
