Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities love Halloween. There are so many great events each year, that it is not possible to attend them all. 

Below is a listing of some of the great Washtenaw County Halloween Events. If you know of an event that is missing, please leave it in the comments. I will keep looking for events as they are announced over the next few weeks and update the list below.

In addition to the specific events listed below, no Halloween season is complete without a trip to the pumpkin patch or corn maze.

Whitmore Lake’s Fine Arts Academy presents a Children’s Enchanted Barn with Halloween Fun for ages 3-12 as part of Whitmore Lake’s Frightmore Lake celebration. The 60 minute tours through the Enchanted Barn will be led by costumed characters like a Fairy God Mother, Princess, or Super hero. Tours will interact with Fairytale Princesses, Beauty & the Beast characters, Wizard of Oz favorites, and stop in at Superhero planet. $15/child, $5/adult. Pre-registration is required. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Fine Arts Academy. There is a limit of 8 children per tour.

Monster Smash

Halloween Fun

Trick or Treat on the River

Gallup Park – 3000 Fuller Rd, Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor Parks is sponsoring their annual Trick or Treat on the Huron River on Sunday, Oct. 16, between noon and 5 p.m. The event starts at the Gallup Canoe Livery. As you paddle around Gallup Pond there will be costumed creatures handing out treats and candy (be sure to bring a bag). Participants are encouraged to dress in costume.

Tuesday, October 18

Preschool Pumpkin Hunt

Saline Rec Center – 1866 Woodland Dr, Saline

Cost: $8 through 10/6, $10 starting 10/7, $12 day of event (if not sold out)
Preschoolers can join Saline Rec Center for a mini Pumpkin Hunt on Miller Field behind the Rec Center. Then, they can decorate it to take home. There will also be a story and refreshments.

The Ann Arbor Jaycees and Pittsfield Charter Township are partnering for their First Annual Boo Bash on Sunday, October 23 from 1:30-4:30p. The event is FREE! Wear your costume and trick-or-treat at the Museum! Discover special stations and displays full of hands-on activities, live animals, and more! The party is free–no reservations or tickets necessary. The party is suitable for all ages. Don’t forget to bring your goody bag! 

Michigan vs. Maryland Men’s Soccer – Trick or Treat

Michigan’s Men’s Soccer Team will be hosting Maryland on Sunday, October 30. Come in costume and use the photo booth on the concourse. Tweet your picture with the tag #GoBoo for a chance to see yourself on the video board.

Spooky Owls

Eddy Discovery Center – 17030 Bush Rd Chelsea

Owls have long been associated with Halloween, but do you think they’re spooky? Come to Eddy Discover Center for  an up close visit with live Michigan owls and learn about their nocturnal habits and camouflage coloring.  Advance registration requested: Call 734-475-3170.  

Halloween Batting Practice

UM Baseball is holding a fun Halloween Batting Practice event. Kids ages 6-12 can come in costume and take acting practice. They’ll also meet UM Baseball Players.

Halloween Concert

In a new family-oriented format, the University Orchestras join forces for this popular holiday event. This one-hour concert full of tricks, treats, and great music includes an array of spooky musical classics and Halloween favorites. Get out your scariest costume or come dressed as you are to enjoy this delightful occasion for the child in us all. 

Spooky Species

Creature Conservancy – 4950 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd, Ann Arbor

Join Creature Conservancy for Spooky Species, their annual Halloween event. There will be classic Halloween creatures… owls, ravens, bats and more. At The Creature Conservancy’s annual Halloween Party, you’ll get to meet many live animals face to face, one of which is an actual Monster! They’ll discuss some myths and legends and replace fiction with facts about these amazing creatures. This session is for families with kids ages 6+.

Tricks for Treats

GymAmerica is having Tricks for Treats – a Trick or Treat event for ages walkers to 5 years old. Come in costume for treats, games, and prizes.

Scare for Care Halloween 5K

University of Michigan Central Campus – Washington and Fletcher Ann Arbor
Time: 6:00pm
Cost: $10-50 based on distance and registration date
Join the Scare for Care 5K, Mummy Mile, or Monster Mash Dash around UM’s campus. See the website for details on the route including start and end locations. The Monster Mash Dash is just a 100 meter spirit for kids age 8 and under. The Mummy Mile is a shorter distance than the 5K and will feature trick or treat stations along the way manned by friendly, non-scary creatures. Registration is $45/$35/$10 through October 27 and $50/$40/$10 (cash only) on race day. The event supports CARE of Southeastern Michigan.

Trunk or Treat

Goldfish Swim School – 2107 W. Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor

Cost: Free
Goldfish Swim School-Ann Arbor will be holding their second spooky, splashy Trunk-or-Treat! There will be Halloween themed games, activities, snacks, and more. There will also be prizes for best decorated car, best costume, and a raffle. Friends and neighbors are invited to participate in this event at no cost. They ask that you show up with your spookiest spirit, decorate your car and be ready to pass out candy to some ghoulish, monstrous and silly Trick-or-Treaters.

Main Street Treat Parade

My absolute favorite Ann Arbor Halloween event is the Main Street Treat Parade. Businesses along Main Street will have treats for the kids (and sometimes for the adults). Start your trick or treating with the Downtown Library’s Halloween party at 10:30a or noon.

Trick or Treat at Brookhaven Manor

Brookhaven Manor Apartments – 401 W. Oakbrook Dr. Ann Arbor
Time: 1:00pm-2:00pm

Brookhaven Manor Independent Senior Living Apartments near Briarwood Mall is looking for groups to come trick or treat for their seniors on Monday, October 31st any time between the hours of 1 and 2pm. Their residents will be seated in a large circle just inside the doors with baskets of candy ready to hand them out to your cute little trick or treaters. It’s a fun treat for both the little ones and the seniors. They love seeing the children dressed in their cute costumes. If you or your group plan to attend please reserve your spot.

Caramel Apples Halloween Event

Downtown Manchester – Main St, Manchester

Kids can trick or treat in Downtown Manchester for Candy and Caramel Apples on the Manchester Mill Porch and candy at other downtown merchants.

Vineyard’s Annual Fall Festival

Vineyard Church of Ann Arbor – 2275 Platt Rd. Ann Arbor

Come to Rolling Hills & have fun rolling your carved pumpkins down the sledding hill to try to hit the target at the bottom.
