Harlem Globetrotters Show Recap
Disclosure: The Harlem Globetrotters have sponsored this post.
When the Harlem Globetrotters approached me about working on promotion of their game at Eastern Michigan University, I was excited. I hadn’t seen the Globetrotters in 25+ years.
Due to other commitments, we only entered about 15 minutes before game time. By the time we bought dinner, we arrived to our seats only 5 minutes before game time. I did not realize that there would be pre-game entertainment, or I would have tried to rearrange our schedule to arrive earlier.
Speaking of food, EMU’s Convocation Center offers standard arena concessions. We opted for a whole pizza (6 slices) to feed 6 people. Other offerings included hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn, and beverages.
The Harlem Globetrotters Game/Show
The main event is the Harlem Globetrotters game. The game exhibits not only the Globetrotters ball skills but also includes breaks in the action for various hijinks and skits. The Game/Show lasted about 2 hours.
There was a post-game autograph session that lasted about 20 minutes. My daughter was able to get all of the Globetrotters to sign the T-Shirt we bought her. You can also take pictures with the Globetrotters during the autograph session.
The Post-Game Autograph session was perfect at a small arena like EMU. I imagine it would be very crowded at a larger arena like The Palace at Auburn Hills.
Bring a Souvenir budget. At half-time they rolled out carts with Basketballs for sale ($25). There was also a souvenir stand with programs, t-shirts, jerseys, and more. At Eastern Michigan, the stand was setup on the floor (not the concourse). My daughter opted for a t-shirt.
Other Upcoming Stops
In upcoming months, the closest that the Harlem Globetrotters will be to Ann Arbor is at the WFCU Center in Windsor, ON on April 13. Of course this event will require crossing the Canadian border, so you will have to have proper documentation. They will also be in Grand Rapids on Sunday, January 22.
You can check upcoming Tour Dates on their website. With Presidents Day Weekend and Spring Break coming soon, there may be out of town dates that fit your travel schedule. We will definitely be checking the 2018 calendar to see if they return to Ypsilanti.
