Outdoor Fun on a Warm Winter Day
The calendar may be the middle of February, but the weather this week is definitely spring like. Yesterday I was reviewing my activity reviews from the summer looking for outdoor ideas. Unfortunately, many outdoor activities are closed for the season. However, I do have a number of great outdoor suggestions for the next few days.
Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Matthaei Botanical Gardens is open year round. The Children’s Garden offers fun outdoor activities for kids. While there won’t be many flowers to explore, kids can still have fun wandering and with the activities in the Children’s Garden.
Leslie Science Center
Exploring the grounds at Leslie Science Center is a great way to spend a day outdoors. However, be warned that they have Camp on Presidents Day. Monday is probably not the best day to visit.
Visit a Playground
Playgrounds are great outdoor fun year round. Last summer we profiled various playgrounds around Ann Arbor.
We love visiting the Toledo Zoo. When my daughter was a toddler/preschooler we had a membership to the zoo and visited several times a year. Once she started school, we were not able to visit as often, but still enjoy our trips.
Warm winter days are a great day to visit the Toledo Zoo. Admission is half-price through March 3rd with the coupon available on their website. Admission is free for Lucas County Residents on Presidents Day Weekend, February 17-20. The Zoo will likely be less crowded another day this week.
Buhr Outdoor Ice Rink
The refrigeration system at Buhr Park Outdoor Ice Rink allows the rink to operate at temperatures over 50F. With extended temperatures over 60F, I am not sure if the rink is still open this week.
Yesterday morning, my daughter said that she’d like to swim since the weather’s warm. While outdoor pools aren’t open, there are several indoor swimming options.
