Jiffy Factory Tour
My daughter’s Girl Scout troop took advantage of the half-day today. They took the Jiffy Factory Tour in Chelsea. Along with the leaders and several other parents, I joined her troop on the tour.
About the Jiffy Factory Tour
The Jiffy Factory Tour has three parts: Introduction/About Jiffy, Factory Tour, Wrap-Up. In total, the tour lasts about an hour.
The tour starts with an introductory video and information about the company. The video stars “Corny”. Did you know that Jiffy has a 92% market share in Corn Muffin Mixes. All of their mixes are made and packaged at their Chelsea Plant.
Also in the video room, Jiffy products and merchandise are available for purchase at this stage. While you tour the factory, your purchases are gathered and are brought to you at the end. I bought a 12 pack of Jiffy Mixes and an insulated shopping bag. I customized my case mix.
During the video we also received complimentary beverages – bottled water and tea/coffee were available for the adults. When we took the tour in 2013, we received muffin samples. I was disappointed that we did not get a sample today.
Before starting the Jiffy Factory Tour, all guests need to done hair nets (and beard covers if anyone has a beard).
During the Factory Tour, we saw one of the mixing lines. It was not running during our visit. Not only does Jiffy mill the grains and blend the mixes, they also make their own boxes. Some of the printing is done off site, but box assembly and case identification are done onsite.
Most of what you see on the tour is the packaging portion of the plant. They were slow while we were there with some equipment was down for cleaning. With the units offline, we had a closer look at the case packer and other equipment.
The Jiffy Factory Tour ends in the shipping bay. At the end of your tour, each guest receives a goody bag for visiting. The kids goody bags included one mix, an activity book, stickers, and more. The adult goody bag included two mixes and a recipe book.
Plan a Jiffy Factory Tour
Jiffy Factory Tours are free. They are open to both groups and individuals. Kids must be in first grade or older to participate. We had a group of 19 – 13 kids and 6 adults.
