ANN ARBOR, MI April 6, 2017 — Briarwood Mall invites shoppers on a seasonal treasure hunt this month when local artists hide one-of-a-kind works of art throughout the shopping center. Guests will have the chance to win a $500 Simon Visa gift card.

From April 15 to May 31, shoppers can hunt for 22 unique Fairy Doors hidden throughout the shopping center. Each door has a code that can be texted to 74666 (standard data and message rates may apply). Each text entry will unlock discounts and freebies at participating retailers. They will also receive a letter that will be part of a Fairy Jumble word puzzle. There will be a message on the back of each door. This message will include a retailer discount and a letter for a Fairy Jumble Word Puzzle.

In addition to special discounts and freebies, guests will also receive a letter with each text entry that will be part of a Fairy Jumble word puzzle. Turn in the Fairy Jumble game card at Guest Services, and be entered to win a $500 Simon Visa Gift Card. Game cards are available at Guest Services. There is no need to complete the Fairy Jumble to enter to win.

Then, on May 31, all of the hand-crafted fairy doors will be put on display at Art is in Market in Center Court to be auctioned via silent auction. All proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen.

The project is spearheaded by Debbie La Pratt, owner of Briarwood Mall’s Art is in Market. La Pratt and other artists who display in Art is in Market created these unique doors, drawing inspiration from iconic scenes in Detroit and surrounding areas.

The phenomenon of fairy doors in Ann Arbor can be traced back to 2005, when the diminutive doors first began to appear in local businesses. According to believers, humans can coax fairies to take up residence in these tiny dwellings by offering notes and gifts. Today, Ann Arbor is home to more than 200 fairy doors.

“Fairy doors are a unique part of Ann Arbor culture that we are proud to embrace here at Briarwood Mall,” said Denise Murray. “We are blessed to have such talented artists excited to participate in our quest to support SGK.”
