Lighting Up Ann Arbor: Your Guide to Spectacular Fireworks Displays
Are you looking for Ann Arbor Fireworks Displays in 2023? We are still gathering information as displays are announced for 2023.
When I moved to Ann Arbor I was surprised to learn that Ann Arbor doesn’t have its own Fireworks display. Plus, many local displays are spread throughout the week before Fourth of July instead of that night. Growing up Fourth of July Fireworks were an annual tradition. Although we have been spoiled to have several simultaneous displays in my neighborhood each year
Metro Detroit’s Fireworks 2023 Events
Each year Metro Detroit has two top-billed firework events. They are a bit further from Ann Arbor, but are still good choices.
Ford Fireworks Show 2023
Each year the Detroit fireworks are held over the Detroit River. Viewing is available in both Downtown Detroit and Windsor. The 2023 Ford Fireworks will be on Monday, June 26, 2023.
The 2023 Detroit Fireworks start time is at 9p for the show with the fireworks at dark. When my daughter was younger, I would DVR the fireworks for her to watch the next day.
Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) returns to Greenfield Village with Salute to America. The 2023 event is a hybrid of the traditional main stage concert and the strolling ensemble concerts introduced in 2021.
Spend the early evening exploring the historical buildings while listening to small ensembles throughout the village. Then head to the Village Green at dusk to see the DSO on the main stage. They will conclude their performance with the 1812 overture as the fireworks explode overhead.
Washtenaw County Fireworks 2023
Typically Ann Arbor area fireworks display start with local fairs on Memorial Day Weekend. They usually end with Dexter Daze in mid August. Pre-pandemic, the only local event on Fourth of July was in Saline. They formed a committee in July 2022 to plan for Saline Fireworks in 2023, but we have not seen an announcement.
The Huron-Clinton Metroparks are continuing fireworks, but there is not a display at Hudson Mills this year. The closest Metroparks fireworks to Ann Arbor are at Kensington and Willow Metroparks.
In the past, the Burns Park and Hunt Park neighborhoods usually have good fireworks. These are usually organized by local residents, but are not publicly announced. If anyone has information on Burns Park Fireworks for 2023 or Hunt Park Fireworks, please let us know.
Fireworks at Home
Certain fireworks are legal in Michigan. If you choose to use these fireworks at home, please be sure to be safe. Don’t let kids set them off, have a fire extinguisher handy, and use caution.
We typically watch the displays that are put on by various people in our neighborhood. We are able to sit on our porch, by our fire table, or on the driveway and watch shows. Unfortunately, as the trees in our neighborhood have grown from a new build in 2003, our view has become more limited. Still, it is nice not to fight traffic or find a place to watch.
