Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now in theaters. My daughter and I were invited to an advance screening in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are our own.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review
My daughter and I both enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. My daughter liked it better than the first movie. I think a big part of her preference for Vol 2 is that she loves Baby Groot.
While I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel, there were things that I liked about the first movie better. The first movie had more of a connection to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe since it dealt with one of the Infinity Stones. Additionally, the Nova Corps who featured heavily in the first movie barely get a mention in this movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. offers more character development as each character explores what makes a family and what it means to them. At the same time, there is plenty of action. Throughout the film, there is plenty of humor to keep the lighthearted tone.
We can’t wait to see the movie again this weekend with my husband and friends.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a PG-13 rating. When the first movie was released, I saw the screening without my then 8.5 year old. Now that she’s 11, I brought her to see the screening with me.
The movie content was typical of many of theater PG-13 Marvel movies. There was violence and some language. Both were fairly typical of a superhero movie. The violence was mostly off screen and implied. There is nothing overly gory shown. However, Yondu’s arrow is shown going through multiple people. There are no sex scenes in the movie. There is one scene that an adult will interpret as a strip club (or worse), although I’m not sure kids will make the connection. The language is no worse than the first movie. To me, the one that stuck out the most was douchebag used a few times. The IMDB Parents Guide for the movie lists some of the words that were used, but leaves this one out.
Stay for the Credits
When the credits roll, do not leave your seats. There is not one or two, but FIVE scenes interspersed in the credits. Not only that, but the credits themselves are entertaining with animation and crazy credit displays.
If you don’t want to stay for the credits, either sit on an end or make sure not to disrupt the post-credits scenes for those who remain in their seats.
