Winchell Park

Ann Arbor’s Winchell Park is behind St Francis Church on Stadium Blvd. It’s proximity to Stadium makes it easy to visit. It offers two play areas, a traditional structure and more of a challenge/activity area that is better for older kids. As a tween, my daughter loved the challenge area.

Winchell Park Playground Review

Winchell Park is a neighborhood park with a sand pit, structure, swings, and a softball field. Ride alongs and sand toys have also been left at the park for visitors to use.

A sidewalk surrounds the playground. Rubber mats connect the entrance and bottom of the slide to the sidewalk. While the rest of the playground has mulch, it does qualify as one of our Mess Free Playgrounds.

Even at 11, my daughter enjoyed the playground. She liked the loops leading from the low platform to the higher platform which has the spiral slide. As a younger child, she would crawl across these and needed help. Now, she was able to balance herself and walk across them.

Her one disappointment was that the rockfall was barricaded at the top. After a closer look, we realized that the wall was missing a hand/foothold. I am guessing this is why they blocked the top of the wall. Hopefully they will repair the rockfall soon and reopen the entrance.
