LEGO Advent Calendars Now Available

I’m barely ready for the Halloween content that I posted the last few days, so it definitely is way too early to be thinking about Christmas. However, I wanted to share the news that the 2017 LEGO Advent Calendars are now available. Yes, a new set is released every year. There are currently 3 themes: Star Wars, City, and Friends. I’ve tried to convince my daughter to reuse the calendar by refilling the compartments. But, Dad argues for a new one every year. Plus, they keep coming out with cute special figures. The LEGO Advent Calendars offer a mini-set to assemble each day of December counting down to Christmas. Each day’s pack includes either a mini-figure with a few accessories, or a small set to put together. The assembly only takes a couple of minutes. The mini builds average:
- Star Wars – 12 pieces
- City – 10 pieces
- Friends – 9 pieces
Buying the LEGO Advent Calendars
My daughter has had a LEGO Advent calendar since age 3 or 4. We started with the LEGO City Advent Calendar and switched to a LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar after 2 years. Our first two LEGO Advent Calendars were actually purchased at a 50% discount after Christmas. So we were a year behind. Then, LEGO adjusted the quantity made, and we couldn’t find one after Christmas the next year. At that time, you were still able to find them into early December. In 2015 the LEGO Advent Calendars were in high demand, especially the LEGO Star Wars one – probably due to the anticipation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In mid-November we tried to find one, but all of the local stores were sold out – including the LEGO store in Troy. I was able to get one of the last ones at Target.com in mid-November. It took several tries of putting it in my cart and attempting to check out before they really had one for me. Other online sites (including LEGO) were either sold out or selling the set at an increased cost. Last year, we ordered ours in mid-September. This year, we didn’t take any chances and ordered the set as part of our Force Friday II shopping. In addition to the Star Wars calendar, a LEGO City Advent Calendar and a LEGO Friends Advent Calendar are also available.
The 2017 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar
Our LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar arrived yesterday. I love this set! I think it is one of my favorite Star Wars Advent Calendars that we’ve had over the years. We shared a video of the Advent Calendar on Facebook yesterday.
There is a mini-build starting on December 1 for each day through Christmas Eve. I wonder if there will be a special build on December 14 for the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Last year’s box featured planets that spanned the first 6 movies. This year’s box features Jakku and Starkiller Base from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s such a juxtaposition to see the desert planet of Jakku decked out for the holidays with evergreen trees, lights, and presents in the crashed vehicles. I love the snowboarding BB-8 – complete with a Santa hat! One thing we missed in our video was the snow trooper with a snow blower. Vehicles include the Millennium Falcon, AT-ST walker, a speeder with presents, a shuttle, and more.
