One of our annual holiday traditions is a LEGO Advent Calendar. The 2021 LEGO Advent Calendars are now available. It’s time for our annual debate of which set to buy. This year, they have added an Avengers theme.
This year’s themes are:

We started with the LEGO City Advent Calendar when my daughter was a preschooler. Then we switched to Star Wars for many years. The last couple of years we have had the Harry Potter LEGO Advent Calendar. This year my daughter decided to return to Star Wars.
LEGO Advent Calendars
The LEGO Advent Calendars provide a mini-build for each of 24 days. My daughter looks forward to her build each day in December. It’s a great motivator to wake up and get ready for school quickly on dark winter mornings.
LEGO City Advent Calendar
The LEGO City Advent Calendar is the original LEGO Advent Calendar theme. This set has 349 pieces, an average of more than 14 pieces per build. This year’s LEGO City features mini figures from the LEGO City Adventures TV Series includingTop Hat Tom, Bob, Betty, Sam Grizzled, Shirley Keeper and Fendrich. The set includes hockey players, santa, snowman, mini trains, and more.

LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar
LEGO Harry Potter was a new Advent Calendar theme in 2019 and the one we had in 2019 and 2020. This year’s LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar features the Yule Ball Platform 9 3/4, Harry’s birthday cake from Hagrid, and a Gringott’s Vault. It is less holiday themed than last year’s Yule Ball set. , Note, the Harry Potter set is only 274 pieces – just 11 pieces per build on average.

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar
This year, we opted for The LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. The big draw of this year’s Star Wars set is Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) in an ugly Christmas Sweater complete with his pod and the Mandalorian in a festive scarf. Other characters include a Tusken Raider and IG-11. This set has 335 pieces, an average of just under 14 pieces per build.

LEGO Friends Advent Calendar
The LEGO Friends Advent Calendar is the largest of the Advent Calendars this year with 370 pieces, more than 15 pieces per day. Last year it was the smallest set. This year the set includes 5 microfigures of the Friends as young girls. The sets include a fireplace, mailbox and lightpost, snowman, piano, feast, and more

LEGO Marvel The Avengers Advent Calendar
The Avengers Advent Calendar is a new theme for 2021. The calendar includes 7 mini figures including Iron Man in an ugly holiday sweater, Thor with a scarf, Thanos, and others. The infinity gauntlet (with all the stones) is one of the daily builds. There is also a Christmas tree, stockings, and more holiday items. There are miniatures of Avengers Tower, the Quinjet, and a helicarrier. The set has 298 pieces, an average of almost 12.5 pieces per day.
